Person B was charged with selling etomidate to famous girl group member Ga-in and others. Etomidate is an injectable medicines with similar effects to propofol, but it is not designated as a forbidden medicine.
On the 25th, Suwon District Court’s Criminal Affairs Division 3 (Chief Judge Kim Soo-il) held an appeal trial for plastic surgeon B, who was charged with violating the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act, violating the Narcotics Control Act, and violating the Medical Act, and was sentenced to 1 year and 6 years in prison as in the original trial. He was sentenced to a fine of 3 million won per month and ordered to collect an additional 9.2 million won.
B was also accused of administering propofol to four people, including Ga-in, and not recording the details of their treatment in the medical record.
Ga-in was not arrested because etomidate was not designated as a forbidden medicine, and was not punished for having received propofol from Mr. B four times, stating that he thought it was for therapeutic purposes. Separately from this case, it was found that propofol was administered, and he received a summary indictment and a fine.
Ga-in was embroiled in controversy in June 2017 when she revealed that an acquaintance of actress Ju Ji-hoon, her then-boyfriend, had recommended her marijuana. The man under the suspicion was tested negative for narcotics by the National Forensic Service, and the police did not find any clues or evidence to suspect a marijuana-related crime. The man was acquitted by the prosecution.
